Road to the Oscars: Doubt

Mais um bom filme de 2008. Da autoria de John Patrick Shanley, este foi apenas o 2º filme deste realizador. O primeiro tinha sido o Joe Versus the Volcano, de 1990 com Tom Hanks. Este é um filme completamente diferente da comédia dos anos 90, sendo um filme frio, muito bem pensado e com várias questões no ar.

Aliás, todo o filme torna-se numa Dúvida. O filme conta a história de um padre que dá aulas numa escola católica que estabelece uma ligação muito forte com um aluno. Aluno esse de cor negra, que sofre bastante com as repressões devido à sua raça, muito frequentes na altura. Ainda hoje são frequentes, infelizmente.

No entanto, toda esta história não cai bem nas graças da reitora da escola. Começam a levantar questões sobre a natureza da relação. Quanto à moralidade, à validade das acções do padre, até que ponto é uma relação legal. Entramos então no jogo do gato e do rato, num mar de dúvidas.

Meryl Streep tem um papel de uma reitora fria e sem escrúpulos, que não encontra obstáculos para atingir os meios. Philip Seymour Hoffman é o padre que tenta ajudar aqueles que são mais necessitados (neste caso, o tal aluno). Qualquer um deles tem um excelente desempenho. Aliás, Meryl volta a provar porque é considerada uma das melhores actrizes de sempre. Fantástica. Hoffman tem um bom papel, também considerado pela academia. Amy Adams consegue ter um excelente papel, há uma caracterização muito forte nesta personagem. Mudanças repentinas de gimmick, é a personagem que se ajusta ao desenrolar da história. É notório isso ao longo do filme. Também a academia teve isso em consideração, com certeza. E surpreendentemente, Viola Davis também foi nomeada para o óscar de melhor actriz secundária. Devo realçar que ela tem muito pouco "tempo de antena", mas na cena em que entra juntamente com Meryl Streep, é de longe a melhor cena do filme, carregada de emoção.
Portanto, é um filme que vale pela qualidade impressionante dos actores principais, pela qualidade e fiabilidade dos diálogos, pela caracterização. Um bom filme.

Road to the Oscars: The Wrestler

Eis a minha segunda review para a Road to the Oscars deste ano. Depois de Frost/Nixon, eis que assisti finalmente ao novo filme de Darren Aronofsky, criador de Requiem for a Dream, Pi e The Fountain.

Este filme foi muito ansiado acima de tudo pelo regresso de Mickey Rourke. Provavelmente não sabem, mas o Rourke teve uma fase muito má da sua carreira, estando cerca de 2 anos sem fazer qualquer filme. Este filme assentou na perfeição no currículo de Rourke e deve ter tido um sentimento especial, visto que há uns anos, o actor chegou a ser lutador de boxe.

Quanto ao filme, este é duma carga emocional impressionante. Darren já nos tinha habituado a filmes muito fortes, sendo Requiem a sua mais forte prova disso mesmo. Estamos perante a história de Randy "The Ram" Robinson, um wrestler que teve imenso sucesso no final dos anos 80. Passados 20 anos, Ram continua no circuito independente (aparecem destacadas as brands da CZW e ROH) a tentar ganhar a vida, completamente consciente que já não tem a genica e saúde de outros tempos.

Tudo aparenta correr dentro da normalidade até que Randy sofre um ataque cardíaco, que coloca a sua carreira como lutador profissional de parte. Uma emoção mais forte pode ser falta. Randy vê-se numa situação caótica, sem ninguém para ajudar, apenas com a sua popularidade de outros tempos e o facto de continuar a ser uma personagem querida no mundo do wrestling. Vê-se entre a espada e a parede e tenta encaixar-se na vida social, tentando corrigir os erros de outrora, numa desesperada tentativa de sobreviver. Há cenas que mostram precisamente isso. Todas as cenas passadas com a filha, a cena com o rapaz a jogar Nintendo, entre outras. Randy vê-se ultrapassado e sente que não tem mais nenhuma solução que colocar a vida em risco e continuar com a sua paixão de sempre, o Wrestling.

O filme é fortíssimo, duma carga emocional muito forte. Coloca uma face no, assumido por alguns, cold hearted Wrestler, uma face de desespero, de alguém que precisa de alguém. Mickey Rourke executa essa papel na perfeição. Melhor era impossível. Óscar para este senhor.

Destaque óbvio também para as 2 meninas do cast: Marisa Tomei está fantástica e Evan Rachel Wood também está muito bem. Aliás, já tinha imensas saudades desta rapariga, longe vão os tempos de Thirteen.

É impossível negar que a grande notícia de hoje é mesmo a vinda dos Killers a Portugal. Um concerto incrivelmente ansiado pelo público português. Vou fazer os possíveis para poder estar presente, sendo que é óbvio que vou esperar para ver quem vem mais. Sonho com Kings of Leon, Radiohead e Arcade Fire. Mágico seria mesmo ter Arctic Monkeys + Queens of the Stone Age :)

Bem, fiquem aí com a grande música dos Killers, aquela que me fez entregar de corpo e alma a esta banda de Las Vegas.

The Killers em Portugal

É oficial e confirmadíssimo: os The Killers vão finalmente fazer a estreia no nosso país.

A banda vai estar presente no SBSR de Lisboa, que vai ser no Estádio do Restelo, no dia 18 de Julho. Para o SBSR do Porto, já estão confirmados Depeche Mode e Nouvelle Vague, para o dia 11 de Julho.

De salientar que este festival este ano vai ter apenas 2 dias, um em cada cidade.

Norton @ Centro Cultural e Congressos

A MÚSICA ELECTRÓNICA E INDIE DOS «NORTON»

Com uma mistura indie com electrónica, pop e, ao vivo, um pouco mais rock, o quarteto "Norton" vem de Castelo Branco.

O concerto no CCC faz parte uma tour entre Portugal e Espanha que se iniciará no dia 31 de Janeiro, na Sala Art Brut, em Madrid, e que se estende até meio de Março.

Carlos Nunes, Rodolfo Matos, Pedro Afonso, Leonel Soares e Alexandre Rodrigues dão forma ao projecto Norton desde Maio de 2002.

Os primeiros tempos da banda foram passados, como convém, num retiro profissional, do qual resultaram as primeiras composições e os primeiros ensaios, os mesmos que meses mais tarde viriam a dar forma ao EP de estreia.

Actualmente contam com dois álbuns editados: Pictures From Our Thoughts e Kersche.

Novo álbum dos Placebo em Junho

Os Placebo preparam-se para lançar um novo disco, este ano, revela a Billboard.

O sucessor de "Meds, editado em 2006, ainda não tem título, mas a banda avança Junho como o mês para a sua edição.

O novo registo, produzido por David Bottrill, marca também a entrada de Steve Forrest para a bateria, no lugar de Steve Hewitt.

Entretanto, a banda já tem actuações ao vivo marcadas que deverão servir para apresentar alguns dos novos temas. Até ao momento estão confirmadas aparições em festivais na Holanda, Alemanha e Áustria.

O novo disco dos Placebo será lançado pela PIAS (representada em Portugal pela Edel).

RIP João Aguardela

Faleceu ontem um dos grandes dinamizadores da música nacional. Fundador dos Sitiados e membro d'A Naifa, João Aguardela faleceu aos 39 anos, vítima de um cancro.


A cerimónia fúnebre terá lugar amanhã pelas 16h00, no cemitério do Alto de São João, em Lisboa.

À família e amigos mais próximos, resta-me dar os meus sentimentos por esta tão forte perda da música portuguesa. A tua obra é eterna.

Nouvelle Vague em Portugal

Novo festival de Música em Portugal

A promotora Música no Coração anunciou a criação de um novo festival na já grande lista de festivais de verão em Portugal.

Segundo o responsável, Luís Montez, este festival será todo dedicado ao reagge, um estilo que tem sido em alguma parte desprezado pelas promotoras.

O festival vai-se realizar na Praia de Ribeira d'Ilhas, na Ericeira, numa Sexta-feira e num Sábado.

"Quero fazer este formato porque não tenho nenhum evento de reggae. Tenho de jazz, de rock... mas não de reggae", frizou Luís Montez.

Kraftwerk perdem elemento fundador e fazem tour com os Radiohead

Florian Schneider, um dos dois resistentes da formação inicial, já não tocou com a banda durante o ano passado e anunciou finalmente a sua reforma. O músico acabou por ser substituído por Stefan Pfaffe.

Acaba assim uma ligação que durou 40 anos, restando apenas Ralf Hütter da formação inicial da banda. Hütter revelou a um jornal neozelandês em Setembro que o Florian tem passado os últimos anos a "trabalhar em outros projectos, coisas técnicas".

No entanto, o projecto vai em digressão a convite dos Radiohead pela América Latina: já há datas marcadas para o México, Brasil, Argentina e Chile.

Josh Rouse em Portugal

O músico norte-americano Josh Rouse vai estar no festival para Gente Sentada, em Santa Maria da Feira.

Josh Rouse vai actuar no mesmo dia que Manuel Cruz, a 14 de Fevereiro.

O festival conta também com os confirmados Giant Sand, Chris Eckman e Chuck Prophet, para o dia anterior (13 de Fevereiro).

Fundador dos Stooges encontrado morto

Ron Asheton, um dos membros fundadores dos Stooges e figura venerada do punk, foi hoje encontrado morto em sua casa, aos 60 anos.

O guitarrista e baixista abandonou os Stooges após Raw Power , de 1973 , e voltou a tocar com os antigos companheiros em The Weirdness , de 2007.

A causa da morte de Ron Asheton não foi ainda determinada, mas poderá estar ligada a um ataque cardíaco.

O corpo do músico, 29º na lista de melhores guitarristas de sempre da Rolling Stone, foi descoberto pelas autoridades policiais, que afirmaram à imprensa que Ron Asheton estaria morto há já vários dias.

Ron Asheton foi um dos fundadores dos Stooges, a par do seu irmão e baterista Scott Asheton, do baixista Dave Alexander e do vocalista Iggy Pop, tendo tocado nos clássicos "No Fun", "Down On The Street" ou "I Wanna Be Your Dog".

A reacção dos restantes Stooges à morte de Ron Asheton não foi ainda conhecida.

Fiquei radiante por ver Dickinson tão bem classificado. Ian Gillan e Daltrey também com um merecidissimo destaque. Foi uma surpresa ver Rodgers tão no topo e também não ver Mercury no 1º lugar. Apesar do 1º classificado também não ficar nada mal.
Notei também as ausências de Joe Strummer, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, entre outros.
Por fim, achei Jim Morrison incrivelmente mal classificado e Bono e Axl Rose estão claramente sobrevalorizados.

Demo de Skate 2 já na Quinta-Feira!

O jogo que colocou o Tony Hawk's Pro Skater fora do trono dos Skates vai lançar uma nova demo do novo Skate 2, com data marcada para 8 de Janeiro, já esta próxima quinta-feira.

O jogo completo está disponível no próximo dia 21.

O que 2009 nos espera em concertos?

O novo ano já nos traz várias bandas de renome internacional.

KaiserChiefs abre já o apetite, agora a 31 de Janeiro e 1 de Fevereiro, nos Coliseus do Porto e Lisboa, respectivamente.
Temos depois Mogwai na Aula Magna a 5 de Fevereiro, Tindersticks a 13, Oasis a 15 e Soulfly a 16. Caso para dizer, temos Fevereiro recheado.

Em Março, temos marcado encontro com o Priest Feast, que junta Judas Priest, Megadeth e Testament, no Atlântico. Tudo a 17 de Março.

Teremos também os grandes Eagles, também no Pavilhão Atlântico, a 22 de Julho.

A grande dúvida reside mesmo na vinda ou não dos AC/DC, banda que o público português desespera já há mais de 10 anos.

Call of Duty atinge 35 milhões de vendas

É verdade, a série Call of Duty atingiu este número impressionante. A agência Reuters anunciou estes valores, já impulsionados com o novo jogo Call of Duty: World At War.

Estes valores vão concerteza ainda aumentar depois do lançamento do Modern Warfare 2, que está a ser desenvolvido pela Infinity Ward.
